Licensing the RITE Project
On January 23, 2012, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a
delegated order issuing a pilot project license for the RITE Project - the first commercial license for tidal power in the United States.
Under the license, Verdant Power plans to develop a 1 MW pilot project in the East Channel of the East River comprised of up to 30 commercial class (Generation 5) turbines, which would be installed in a staged approach. The pilot license issued to Verdant Power is for
10 years.

January 2012 - FERC Issues Pilot License for RITE Project On January 23, 2012, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a

December 2010 - Verdant Power Submits Final Pilot License Application to FERC for RITE Project On December 29, 2010 Verdant Power submitted its Final License Application to FERC for the commercial development of the RITE Project- a 1 MW pilot project comprised of 30 new Generation 5 turbines, which would be installed in a staged approach in the East Channel of the East River.

May 2010 - RITE Project Receives NYSERDA Award
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)
announced awards of $11.3 million to support innovative NY-based
energy projects, including the RITE Project. The award will support the
first phase of installation under the proposed RITE Project Pilot build-out. NYSERDA has been a long-standing partner in the development of the
RITE Project, having previously supported system R&D, project
environmental monitoring and commercialization efforts. More
May 2009 - FERC Concludes Pre-Filing Process and Approves Verdant Power's Process Plan and Schedule
FERC has issued a public notice stating that it has concluded the pre-filing process related to Verdant Power's application for a commercial license and that the requisite regulations have been waived in order to allow for an expedited review of the application under the Hydrokinetic Pilot Project Licensing Process.
The next step in the application process is for Verdant Power to submit its Final License Application.
